I'm still trying to figure out if this outcome was what the Liberals were aiming for all along, or if they are really that fucking stupid that they thought these companies would pay out for news links.
To an extent it was. They're hoping that people inside Canada will instead go directly to news sites for their news, and most people still predominantly consume news from MSM outlets which are all now financially beholden to the government. So the hope is that the end result of this will be people consuming only the establishment narrative from the CBC, CTV, Global, etc. websites when they might otherwise have Googled the topic they wanted news about and inadvertently seen an unsanctioned opinion or perhaps some information the MSM were being careful to leave out of their coverage.
