Removing sex appeal has never made anyone do anything. That's not how human motivation works. The only way it could work is if the censorship shifted it down to a lower ESRB rating and that severely impacted customer or marketing access.
Also there's no amount of content tweaking that will make someone play a pvp fighting game. They're just too niche of a genre. I have Skull Girls and I've barely played it because it's just too hyper and fiddly and basically multiplayer only. As a fighting game casual I've only really enjoyed Soul Calibur 3 because of the extensive single player adventure and customization (and sex appeal).
