This refugee shipwreck has been blasted across the internet like an Nike mailing list. I saw a couple of accounts trying to promote it in r/redscarepod threads about the Titanic submarine.
There were multiple threads on mainstream subreddits that got completely called out in the comments every single top comment was saying it is the smugglers at fault, and not Greece/Italy. Also the fact that a disaster near American waters doesn't have anything to do with what happens in the Mediterranean. It was really quite level-headed.
I even saw someone say that we should just shoot one boat down and blast it across the news to stop them coming illegally. Honestly this isn't a bad idea, although I would just use an empty boat, propaganda style.
