When I grew up in what seems like a century ago now, it was taken for granted that puberty was a naturally uncomfortable part of growing up for everybody. Health class and parents taught us adolescents not to worry. We were just going through "the change", and it might take longer for some of us than for others, but it was perfectly normal.
Apparently the science has evolved, and we now understand that if you ever feel discomfort while going through puberty, you just might be in the wrong body.
