She'll modify her behavior as necessary to not die lonely. It's a tactical move, and nothing we do will change that. In fact, looking at this from a "negotiate from strength" point of view - if society were less forgiving, she might literally throw herself down in the streets crying for Jesus. You'd get MORE contrition if you shamed her constantly. Either way there's not much benefit to the rest of us in her "changing her ways" or not. She's already used up.
At best if we take any victimization away, this story makes me think of some famous poker player doing an interview to tell us he gambled all his life savings away and is living in the streets. He even admits he was stealing to fund his gambling addiction. We might be like "Damn that sucks. Hope he learned his lesson and things turn out better in the future." That's fine. But then what if he goes on that he's looking for new jobs and they just aren't up to his standards? Would you write a comment about not condemning him?
