Cities Skylines, for when you like SimCity, but hate EA. A sequel probably will do good for the spaghetti code it was running on.
As someone who is a Cities Skylines fan, I know the things to look for. And I can say it looks like it is going to be a huge step forward compared to CS1. It looks a lot less cartoony (death to the Hot Dog Van!), you can set your city to have different build styles between American, European, or Asian. The road builder looks like it got a HUGE overhaul that will make it far easier to actually build more realistic road networks and intersections. And like you said, using a much newer version of Unity that will let it run "better" (probably still not great, but still much better) as well as having AI that can actually use lanes without needing mods.
It even looks like they are dabbing on the corpse SimCity by putting in modular/upgradable city buildings, which is pretty much the only thing anyone had anything good to say about the last SimCity ever made.
