He may not have been, but I can't help but think "involuntary resignation" whenever I see a seemingly white man giving up his position for someone of another demographic. Knowing now that he's Jewish, I'm sure he eagerly gave up his position because the optics of it are the same.
The optics are the same in that he can say, "follow my lead 'fellow' white men" but we are probably over thinking this. He might just want to do something else.
That is a possibility. I'm sure he's done well enough that he can take a considerable amount of time off, and I don't blame him, but the trend "getting out of the way" has made me wary.
