It's white of a certain class. I have friends in SA who seem to be doing fine and think the people talking about this are racist. They are a bit older, have held a position long enough to use a network to get jobs, and have money set aside for life. Some of them are retired and moved to the coast.
I saw something similar in the PNW. The jobs rate is dwindling if you aren't in the empires. I once walked down a street and applied to every shop I saw. No one called me back or hired me. This got way worse after 2008 when they entered the depression under Bush and Obama. Places like Spokane are running on fumes since all the jobs are disappearing for the lower class, while the upper class are just fine.
When "upper class" whites are the only ones left in SA, they'll also be the only immediate targets for the bottomless appetite of black racial hatred. They sound arrogant and naive.
I think there's a level of nostalgia as well. SA was once great, and they were alive for that. It's hard to admit how badly it's gotten, and they can relive that life without too much worry even today.

Naivety is a common problem for the upper class.
Nostalgia. Can't deny that. I feel the same way about Canada and the US and it can get so much worse.
