I get your point, people have short memories usually, this is something I've noticed about video games as well. People like to rave about certain titles for awhile but in reality how many of them have replayed the game or come back to them after a long while?
The answer is of course very few titles in reality at least for modern games. If people do replay games, it's old ones that are timeless or have a lot of replay value. Now you've brought it up, media in reality seem to be very similar to each other in terms of consumption rate. You have your meme games which everybody plays for about 3 weeks maximum then they immediately forget about and move onto the next thing, but you know something is a real hit when you have people still playing 3 years later and getting back into it again.
See games like:
. Starcraft
. CS:GO
. Skyrim
. Total War Warhammer
. Terraria
. Stardew Valley
. Rimworld
The list goes on really with games because it's such a wide choice thankfully, TLDR, it's the difference between what people will treat as a meme versus really enjoy as an experience.
