Back in the olden days, they were just apolitical, funny variety shows where they'd bring on celebrities -- usually to promote a new movie/book/whatever. They'd do some cheezy skits (check out "The Bar" from David Letterman: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFk4nxBdAsA ) and talk about working in the industry ... and mostly just try to be funny.
I would imagine that there is at least some of that left, between all the virtue signaling and promotion of The Message, but I haven't watched anything but embarrassing clips from them for decades so I really couldn't tell you.
