Said it many times that I may as well be a broken record, the UK police force is the biggest bunch of pussies in the world. They are focusing on 'thought crime and hate speech' because it doesn't require physical force to enforce.
Problem for them is that the population of the UK have already noticed this and the police have less authority than sanitation workers. I've heard from friends that live there that have kids that they don't bother teaching their kids that if they're in trouble, call the police because they know how useless they are so better to be more self reliant to be safe.
That sounds like the Ghetto in the US. You call the police for insurance reasons, not to get anything solved. It was a real shock when I lived outside of it and the cops showed up in a few minutes. Then the locals complained that it took them 5 minutes to get there.
Then you live in the very rich areas, and the private police answer the door, or show up at the gas station you are at. It feels very different.

I loved the quote in Ananzi Boys where a character realizes that the police are there to make upper middle class people feel safe.
