I learned to tune it out. Makes me sad as a Cowboys fan to see deion make a dumb comment. “Despite the fact that the league is already majority black, I’m going to make you feel guilty over not drafting more black players in a majority black sport”. Sounds logical
Every single one of the top ten draftees was black. Those are the guys who are going to make absolute BANK on their signing bonuses, think 30-some million bucks or so. And that’s fine! Teams pick the best player that fits their needs, they don’t give a rip about color, these kids earned the money. …they just tended to play for big state schools, where you’d expect the absolute best college players to be. HBCUs aren’t even Division I FBS, they’re in lower divisions for football, mostly Division I FCS, some are in Division II also. There aren’t that many non-BCS players drafted each year, period.
So this is just stupid as hell on all counts. As another user says, “It’s never enough.” There does seem to be a bit of a Current Year movement to get big name black players to go to HBCUs, so if that keeps up their draftee numbers will increase, but honestly no superstar recruit is going to spend their full college career in a lower division. I bet we’ll see plenty start there but piss off to big-time programs as their stars rise.
