I don't know if "defining" themselves as a platform will make a difference in all the various countries, but letting local authorities moderate content in a technically transparent way is the best approach. Musk and Zuckerberg shouldn't be obligated to do the Stasi's dirty work.
This could all be avoided if EVERY one of these companies defined themselves as a platform so moderation is up to local jurisdiction.
That way they can just stop directly serving the regions that demand them to be more active in controlling content and watch VPN use skyrocket there.
