Didn't the largest lynching event in American history involve hanging a bunch of Italians?
Even HP Lovecraft's autistic racism was directed in large part against non-English immigrants, commonly seen as anarchists and other troublemakers (not without a reason, for example a Polish anarchist shot dead an American president and there were a lot of bombings and riots and such), not to mention common and organised criminals.

It was, though its worth noting that it was over a police chief being killed and them thinking it was "organized crime" was the problem.
So less racism against Italians and more "the mafia is basically an Italian Supremacist terrorist group and we are scared of them." Because you can't have a crime ring that only lets your people in and then get mad people don't like your people. Which sucks for those not in it.
Because when it happened and for the next several decades, the organized crime problem in America was as big as the problem with blacks today in terms of "constant horrors upon every community they touch." And the biggest one was usually the Italians, who were pretty specific about that as well.
