What a far cry from the US Navy that fought in Pacific War in 1942-1945. There was a point in the war where they only had two functioning carriers and they still managed to hold the japs at bay through sheer grit. Nimitz and Halsey are rolling in their graves.
Hey, you forgot to give props to the Yorktown, that carrier took a bombing run by the Japanese in the battle midway, it's crew did excellent damage control that they got it running and fires out but then got bombed again by the Japanese and crippled.
Because of that, the Japanese thought they sunk 2 carriers not 1 and that's what lost them the battle and all their carriers.
Hell, look at Frank Jack Fletcher's track record fighting the IJN at its naval height in 1942. While true Admiral King held a grudge against the man, in retrospect Fletchter did as well as he could fighting the Japanese with what he had.
