For those who do not know, a "suspended" sentence means it is not enforced, but could potentially be enforced if conditions are violated, such as if he doesn't pay the $3,670. It's really just a tool to make him pay the $3,670.
Let me assure you that normal people, if they get caught for theft like this, generally face much more serious consequences than just paying restitution. Especially if it's a man being charged.
His crime was felony theft. He pled to a misdemeanor and got a wrist slap.
He has another case against him in Minneapolis & an investigation for a case where he stole a black woman's luggage & was in photos where she recognized her clothes (which she had designed) and posted about it on Twitter.
This happens every day to people worse than this guy. Plea down to a misdemeanor. Most of them aren't first time offenders either. So I'm not surprised.
For all people act like we live in an incarcerated state, they really give people who are nonviolent a lot of chances. In many cases, for instance homeless and drug addicts that routinely steal, they never do more than a year in jail because they don't want to prosecute the felony or 3 strikes (if they have it).
