In Australia, atm, the “current thing” is the Aboriginal Voice to Parliament, aka an unelected third chamber in our national parliament, further dividing the country by race…
Aaand I’ve already lost leftist social media “friends” over it. Not by posting about it. Not even by commenting. But by “liking” posts and/or pages that they disagree with…
“Be on the right side of history”, they cry, while steadily restricting their “friends” to only those who think exactly the same…
It’s bizarre. It really is utterly bizarre.
I don’t tend to do the same, on my end, because, I guess I’m not so “intolerant” of differing views. So I just find the whole idea rather bizarre…
Then again, the kind of people to “proudly” have politics in their profile pics/on their homepages are probably not the types you want around, anyway…
I just find it bizarre, though.
And these are graduates, for fuck’s sake.
No wonder things are so fucked, lol.
Even my cousin, who is a few years older than me - started off politically almost the same (her parents are more conservative than mine), got into “activism”, and now, now she is going to spent the next months working in Aboriginal communities (the dysfunctional shitholes you hear about on the news sometimes), in order to learn to “be a better legal advocate” for them…
She’s not even a lawyer. She’s an artist, doing post-grad law…
One of the most brainwashed people I know.
I don’t know how I didn’t continue down that same path, but somehow I didn’t…
And thus, here we are…
Classic; she's going to be a poverty tourist to give her the authority to speak on their behalf.
I've lived in low-income/high-diversity areas since I moved out of my parents house and I always loved when some bint with a first year sociology course tried to lecture me on "racism" or "issues facing the poor" but lived in the suburbs with her parents or on campus with their money.
True. Yes, I’m increasingly realizing that “Succeeded at jumping through hoops and bullshitting” ≠ intelligent or able to think for oneself, lol…
Is it really that successful at brainwashing people, though?
Dunno why it didn’t work on me, then!
Maybe I was just too cynical and burned out already when I went in, so I wasn’t so… “Susceptible”. Honestly, who knows.
When grades depend largely on how hard they agree with the narrative, "graduate" just means gleefully indoctrinated.
