Cheap housing isn't a technical problem: it's that the sort of people who gravitate toward cheap housing are the sort of person normal people would rather avoid if they can help it. Because as a society "we" have decided that the only way you can discriminate against people is on price, so the only legal way to keep out the riff-raff is to make things too expensive for the riff-raff to afford.
* Yes a single-wide doesn't fold. But I can also have one trucked from the lot up the street instead of it having to ship from Vegas.

A friend proposed the idea the other year as a possible way his house might work out. He ended up building a dome house, still is actually, and it has all sorts of problems. But the idea has intrigued me. So long as there is a cover over the central connecting area I am good.
