Well men are "expected" and portrayed to be the violent, destructive half of the human race. Women are portrayed, and privileged upon that expectation, as the loving and creative half.

So their crimes are not just more shocking, they are more evil by abusing the trust and privilege bestowed upon them by society. The same way a teacher raping a child is far more heinous and evil than a random stranger.
