Archives don't allow content to be memory holed. They also take the power away from book publishers and other media conglomerates to make profits from their products because you have the ability to rent their content or use it freely in the way you want to. Archives take away control, profit and the ability to craft the narrative from those who publish the news, make the laws and create copyrighted work which is why they take great offence at archive services, not just archive.org (it's just the biggest and well known one) but all the other archiving services and even physical libraries.
