Still, I wouldn't be that bothered if they sent all teachers to a one week course like you did. It would be an exceptional use of time and money. Some state should make it mandatory for a teaching license.
That would work the best. Gun free zone is the most ridiculous concept. You are specifically announcing to the criminals that no one will legally possess a firearm here. CCW permit training is way more than enough to safely carry a gun to school. I wonder if back in the day any of my teachers carried at school. I wouldn't be surprised really.
They even go after knives now. I saw something last year from somewhere semi-local to me banning employees from having pocket knives. They just want to take things away to look like they are trying. I worked at schools for 5 years and I carried a large pocket knife every day. I also carried it to class when I was in college. I've had this same knife 15 years now and it hasn't once jumped out of my pocket and started stabbing people. Well, maybe it stabbed me in the finger once or twice.
