I will laugh if what brings down YouTube was anime waifus
Seems Hololive is VERY aware of how vulnerable to YouTube's fuckery so in a document not meant for the public there's plans to make their own platform so they no longer have those risks.
Since the main issue with alt tech platforms is having the talent to bring in audiences, this already gives them an advantage as just see 4chans reaction to Pikamee to see the level of dedication they garner.
With the more right leaning heading to Rumble and now possibly normie and audiences from both sides following the vtubers of platform, could be interesting to see if this actually hurts YouTube.
It can not be underestimated just how many people that would bring if they ended up doing that. That is easily millions of fans per Vtuber, which probably means tens of millions since there are plenty of people who only sub to one or two (which means a lot of unique subscriptions).
Especially if this platform if they make it, is opened up to OTHER vtuber agencies.
If I remember right, Hololive is mostly if not all YouTube while your Vshojo and Nijisanji is mostly Twitch and I think Phase connect is YouTube too. I can imagine after a few talks behind the scenes, A LOT of the YouTube focused agencies would switch quickly to the new platform while the Twitch ones might talk but use it as leverage against Twitch.
There's the other aspect of them being HIGHLY advertiser friendly, turns out people prefer buying products with a cute anime character on them than whatever the west is pushing this month. So it'd be funny if even advertisers see the traffic and switch.
And if they open it up to Indie Vtubers, it could help grow the platform that much more, as well as keep everyone on the up since it would keep competition tight (which would mean better content overall).
Certainly something to keep an ear to the ground over.
And if they open it up to all gamers, not just Vtubers? Damn, they have been looking for a YouTube alternative for years.
There is a lot of cross pollination with gamers and vtubers, not just because vtubers play games but quite a lot of them stream with non-vtuber streamers like I watched Rimmy play sons of the forest with a squad that had vtubers and you have some indie and agency vtubers not shy to show their real body like Kson and 'technically' demondice (aka Mori)
So that is something that can be opened up to, the thing is I think we need to gatekeep certain things though, I'd prefer it if it was more entertainment focused to keep out the political actors as it'd be an issue if old media got it's hook in this new platform like they did YouTube.
