Think the last Battlefield game I bought and had fun with was BF1, liked the aesthetic and the gameplay was great (I also know from playing why Germans REALLY wanted the shotguns banned).
But after that they lost all steam, the BFV trailer killed enthusiasm before it could start and the latest one had high hopes....hit a cliff and everyone burn in the wreckage after getting rid of classes (a move they have now gone back on) bugs, glitches and lack of proper design in some cases.
Battlefield 1 was excellent considering, not as good as Battlefield 4 which to me was the perfect multiplayer FPS, it just needed minor tweaking to balance and to stop the horrible spawn camping abuse. However both the two games are infinitely better as you point out than any release they've done lately.
It's a piss take though, Battlefield 4 ended up getting ruined by the community with shitty admins who would ban you over nothing or have huge amounts of silly weapon rules. Battlefield 1 servers got ruined by lack of support from EA because they would just constantly get infested with Chinese hackers and they're probably still there to this day ruining the game for people.
I think you're right about the devs when it comes to these older titles and how people still prefer them. They could do the decent thing and offer support and even patches to fix up things and they would make good money marketing these titles on modern machines. instead though they get butthurt and deliberately try to wreck everything to try and force people onto their newer titles that suck hard.
Well how can they sell 'the new thing' if the old one still outclasses them easily
Oh god I remember those admins, they were so bad at times that the worst ones where 'metro only, no explosives', it's why I used to favourite the ones that just set up a playlist of great maps and that's it.

The most pathetic thing is they're still at it today lol.
Destroying servers for older games helps sell new ones. So EA is happy to let hackers or busybodies ruin their previous releases.
