I honestly think is insignificant outside of the scenario were the mother gets to stay as well, either she was a low paying job that she quits, extremely flexible hours or she was not working to begin with.
The baby in the first few month and up to a year at least, needs the mother. More so if you plan to breastfeed.

Agreed, imho you need both for the bonding experience for the baby and the parents also but sometimes that's not feasible.
