Do we have any examples of what Mediterranean Semites would have looked like at the time?
There's bound to be some examples of depictions of jews around the time of Jesus.
First thing that comes to my mind is this 2nd century mosaic of a Galilean from Sepphoris, Mary's hometown. Not exactly white as the driven snow (especially unlikely in Jesus' case, considering he worked as a carpenter and wouldn't have gotten to lounge around indoors like some pampered aristocrat) but not a dark as a Bedouin from the Nejdi desert, much less an actual black guy either.
Lot's of red blush in there.
That guy on the left seems like he's not even Lebanese. He's almost as dark as an Indian.
