Like most articles on this bill, they miss the point entirely.
The CRTC was able to regulate broadcast media to have a certain level of Canadian content. This distinction is important because there is physically limited EM spectrum over which to broadcast, while internet is virtually unlimited. Broadcast is a zero sum game where American content can literally displace Canadian content by taking up all available spectrum, while no amount of American content can stop Canadians from producing and consuming Canadian content over the internet.
This bill is a bald power grab; the CRTC has absolutely no business regulating internet and the entire agency should stick to dealing with allocating spectrum to ham radio operators like the dinosaurs they are.
Coerced speech and association, fundamental rights are being breeched... MUH Canadian Content. Yet dip shit says Canada has no core values, or mainstream. So what the Fuck are they on?
