any sort of loan forgiveness without solving the root problem, is just a handout from the taxpayer to bankers. these are subprime degrees -- the lenders knew the loans would not be repaid, even before the loan was handed out, and just like the mortgage crisis, the taxpayer is taking on the debt when the borrower defaults. tuition has gone up because of easy access to limitless debt, just like in the mortgage crisis.
all forms of taxpayer funding, whether grants, scholarships, loans, or loan backing, need to be banned for all degrees unless that particular degree program at that university meets strict requirements:
90%+ of graduates get a job within 6 months, and retain that job for at least a year
that job requires THAT degree, not just the arbitrary requirement of "any 4 year degree"
that job pays a living wage
that job is unaffiliated and unfunded by the university
this would decimate enrollment in shit tier programs. where they have 100 students and only 9 get a qualifying job (most libart degrees are like this), the program would basically fall to 10 students on financial aid, and anyone else is paying for it themselves. tuition fees would collapse too because the access to debt would be reined in, just like the mortgage crisis. and all those programs that just manufacture loser socialists without actually conferring any skills would collapse. loser leftism would die off.
