On one hand, Richard Dawkins said that Christianity is probably a bulwark against something worse; on the other, he went all-in on the COVID idiocy. He's your run-of-the mill useful idiot, with brief flashes of insight. I'd put him at a lower level of intellectual honesty than Christopher Hitchens (though Hitch was far from a paragon of intellectual virtue), but at least Dawkins scores higher than the totally amoral Sam Harris.
It's strange to think that I admired all of these men less than ten years ago.
I think the time since trump got elected showed how intellectually honest people are, and especially the rona related bullshit.
Scott Adams, for example, while red pilled about white/black relations is still retarded about the rona, saying everyone who knew it wasn't a big deal got it 'accidentally correct'. etc
Agreed. Another public figure that I liked, Penn Jillette, went full-TDS, leftist, COVID-nutter after Trump got elected. His daughter is transgender now, too. Penn constantly flagellates himself over not always getting "his" pronouns correct. It's pathetic.
It is weird how the last twenty years have seen the illusions tossed aside. Science turned into voodoo, the atheists turned into pagans, the liberals turned into progressive authoritarians, and everybody who was plugged into the system either became demonic or revealed themselves to be an NPC/ normie.
