DeSantis appoints Parental Advocate to Oversee Disney district. The person who started the "don't say gay'" bill is now putting Disney in check.
Disney starts looking at more character for them to get rid of because of modern politics.
Bob Chapek straight up called DeSantis and asked him what to do about the insane politics at Disney before he public went against "Don't Say Gay'" bill. It looks like he was being fired no matter what, and did this as a way to get a better contract out of the deal.
Based on the evidence given, it looks like the internal politics at Disney are so fierce they are destroying any way to get out of their own problems. Even the leaders are being forced to follow these ideals. It's a very public meltdown of a once mighty company.
First of all, I completely agree with both points. I just wanted to comment on this one in particular:
Disney co. had a period of time when they did amazingly without Walt. The Disney Rennaissance of the late 80s into the late 90s produced several animated masterpieces that were worthy of the name. Clearly whoever was the creative steward at the time, cared about Disney's legacy. Star Trek had a similar phenomenon with Rick Berman carrying on Gene Roddenberry and Gene Coon's legacies.
Ultimately though, I don't think that either of those situations will repeat. Both media brands got extremely lucky. I don' think that Disney (or Star Trek) for that matter are ultimately salvageable. I think that creative people need to take inspiration from what was good about them, and make wholly originally brands.
That's how George Lucas made Indy and Star Wars. He put in stuff he liked, and made visuals for it. He also lucked out by having Harrison Ford.
True, I remember being a kid and getting all their "special edition will never be sold again on VHS!" tapes. :) I guess there's always a golden era - once. Rather than wokeness causing brokeness, the infestation of activists often follows the downturn of a company, when the good employees have already left or see the writing on the wall.
