I'm from an area of the US that is commonly 40%+ black. In almost all cases, offering help is how you get beaten, robbed, or raped. I remember numerous cases of people literally trying to rescue people trapped in New Orleans from Katrina, only to be robbed and thrown out of their own boats in open water.
You learn from an early age that simply interacting in general is a risky proposition, because of how quickly it can turn into a horror show. Even talking to a lost child will have a screaming woman appear from the ether and suddenly a sucker punch to the back your head simply for existing while white near them. An event that specifically happened to a cousin of mine.
There is no amount of help that can be offered to fix that. Even more so, there is no amount of help that is deserved for a people who act that way in enough cases to turn entire towns and neighborhoods into literal no-go zones.
Yeah, the South is still mostly segregated for a reason. Its not done by law, but by people who could only live if we had "our side of town and your side." Even my high school, which was integrated had a white and black half. And if you went on the black half while white, you got in trouble for getting jumped because you were instigating.
Its not something that can be solved from outside, the cycle of violence and hate needs to be stopped from within. Whites managed to mostly do it, and now its being undone because the otherside didn't.
