Whether the nominee is Trump or DeSantis in 2024, the nominee will be forced to run on stopping bureaucratic overreach, stopping mass immigration, stopping woke corporatism and stopping globalism. The base will accept nothing else at this point.
Let's hope so. But in my experience, the 'base' is fickle as hell. 15 years ago, they would have been mad if you didn't unconditionally back Bush and his wars. Now they supposedly want you to oppose it. Who says 3 years from now, they won't be clamoring for more wars again?

In 2004 the Northern Virginia suburbs and the Dallas suburbs which have the most neo-con voters were heavily Republican. Nowadays both areas are heavily Democrat.
GOP lost many voters in affluent neo-con suburbs but they instead now win prior Democrat rural strongholds in states like Iowa, Missouri, West Virginia and Ohio.
