I'd unironically respect him more if he converted rather than living as a man whose own daughters view him as a lesser outsider, and tell him so straight to his face.

On the one hand I want to call him a rube but on the other it is difficult to think in terms of groups and cultures when yours tries to beat any sense of it out of you. I'm sure he would say "Americans have no culture."
