On a continuum of total government, with concurrent lack of freedom (far left) vs minimal government, with concurrent maximum freedom (far right), I want as little government as possible. This was the original idea of the Constitution, BTW, limited federal government.
Barring government officials from owning property means money cannot buy them, as they cannot take any money or property while serving. There would be so few of them that they would not really be worth buying anyway, which is why corruption is such a problem now, as government officials are definitely worth buying.
