This is because Leftism is entirely psuedo-intellectual western Leftism. But Leftism is so ideologically totalizing that it doesn't understand that it's the exception to the norm, not the norm. They assert "The General Will", and then are always surprised when the general population is typically right wing on most issues, and far-right on things they actually know about. Lenin and Trotsky tried to tell them this, each called it something else: "Private Capitalism" and "Petty Bourgouise" respectively. Fundamentally, they both realized that anyone who had money or property independent of the state, and wasn't part of a larger institution, was the most resilient anti-communist force of all that couldn't be stamped out even with mass murder. Institutionalism is Leftist. Political Rationalism is Leftist.
They have no idea what it would look like to live under non-Leftist authoritarianism, and once their institutional support is gone; they respond with cowardice and comply with the new authority.

Considering that that means that there were women who were actually in real danger now of being honor killed, stoned to death, exiled to death, or burned with acid; that really tells you how loyal Leftists are to the people they claim to protect or represent.
