People were warning all the way back in 2014 that this would lead to white nationalism becoming a thing. They didn't give a fuck because not being hateful pieces of shit was a nonstarter for this crowd. A lot of people who otherwise never would have embraced white nationalism realized that you have to fight fire with fire. Even now a lot of "conservatives" refuse to recognize this reality.
