Upon reflection, it's obvious that Gamergate was seen as a step towards greater control of the internet by those in power. That's why Gamergate failed so spectacularly compared to Comicsgate. Everything the elites wanted to do was already in motion by the time Comicsgate occurred, and thus there was no reason to put a spotlight on it.
Gamergate somehow led to the whole industry capitulating to SJWs and now wokeness is a core tenant of the modern game industry. It wasn't Gamergate alone, but the transformation escalated near instantaneously.
We exposed another health bar of perhaps the most significant "boss" in human history and y'all want to say that we failed? Before GG, the mainstream position was that the media was mostly trustworthy. Today, not only has trust in the media cratered and actually become a mainstream topic of conversation, but it's also become mainstream to believe that Epstein didn't kill himself and that a cabal of elites conspires to control world events.
Our initial, focused and agreed upon Operation Disrespectful Nod was a resounding success. Kotaku itself has been sold and resold for less and less each time. VICE has been written down (by Disney, who are having their own problems) into literal worthlessness. No one has thought about Leigh "I AM Games Journalism" Alexander (or really, any of the other Literally Whos) in years. Gaming websites are widely acknowledged as dead, with YouTubers taking over as credible reviewers. Massive layoffs are sweeping through not just gaming journalism, but the media at large. Frosk's infamous woke rant was met with the swift destruction of her entire network and her ignominious exit from the industry.
Woke project after woke project has bombed or badly disappointed. Off the top of my head: Ghostbusters 2016, Terminator, Charlie's Angels, Watchmen (HBO), She-Hulk, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Rings of Power, Bros, Lightyear, West Side Story, and on and on. Star Wars has been such a profound disappointment for Disney that there are no new movies in production. It is literally reduced to a streaming TV show.
If there hadn't been another health bar, this battle would have been decisively over years ago. But we helped expose the seemingly unlimited amount of money being poured into woke causes by a cabal of wealthy elites. We were instrumental in exposing that second health bar by easily crushing the first, and it's become a legitimately hot topic of conversation.
Gamergate wins yet again.
