Yeah, that's what we've been complaining about for years. Don't get "smart meters", and don't let your cars be hackable by allowing them to connect to the internet.
The small gains of smart meters and so on could be gotten for the consumer by making them part of their own local system (aka their own home).
Edit: Regarding cars, if you must have it be able to adjusted from outside, also included a manual override.
Right, none of this actually needs an internet connection.
