Hubris usually, if I was going to build a giant aquarium in a hotel, I'd have it on the ground floor horizontally so that there was less risk of a catastrophic failure like this vertical tank.

We often have people that build risky shit not to test a theory or show a new way of development, just as a gesture of 'look at my big waste of money!'
