The staff usually aren't the ideologues. You either go along to get along (virtue signal) to keep your job, or you put in the minimum effort necessary. If you know the boss believes in this project being the best it can be - rather than them using it for money laundering or a stepping stone to even greater social justice soapboxes - you'll put more way effort in.
