Which means people do not put up with 10000 automobile deaths a year compared to the likely vastly outnumbered saved lives from the previous mode of transportation.

The government doesn't want you to own a vehicle that they don't have control over. Period. You think the push for EVs is because they actually believe in "muh Climate Change"? When they all own beachfront properties?

Of course, that all ignores how automotive don't get drunk, don't get tired, don't get distracted, and don't take there eyes off the road. They don't need to be perfect; they just need to be better than people. The only thing holding everything back is who's going to take liability in the event of an accident.
