North American use of 'Hispanic' and 'latino' is completely nonsensical to anyone from the old world.
It means 'natives colonized by the Spanish and I guess technically the Spanish descendants as well - if they speak spanish.'
North America obsesses over colonialism, South and Central America do not - hell, Argentina's claim to the Falkland Islands basically hinges on denying Argentina was a Spanish colony and insisting there was totally a real state there before the Spanish showed up.
The reason for this is that Globohomo is a self-hating anglo phenomenon that breeds and festers in anglo nations.
Prime example of this: Ana de Armas. Cuban. Then moved to Spain. Now, obviously, Hollywood…
