Assisted suicide is such a scam. Sounds good to many people on paper, but it's just evil. It's a tiny minority of people who would be unable to kill themselves if they really wanted. They use the excuse of people too weak or sick to take a bottle of pills as a wedge and emotional manipulation, just like they use the rape argument in abortion, or the mass shooter issue in gun control, or the fringe (usually fake) hate crimes in various minority protection scams, or mostly made up issues with civil unions to push gay marriage, or so many other examples.

If people want to kill themselves they can. But I remember when the idea was that society should try to prevent suicides, not guarantee them. It's fucking sick.

It gets especially twisted when they are applying it to young people whose issues are mostly mental. Again, we used to do everything we could to keep these people from offing themselves, now we're supposed to accept government assistance in killing these vulnerable people? Most of these people won't go through with it, but if someone else can do it for them many will take the out. That's not assistance...that's murder.

All I can say is, be very careful which suicide hotline you call, if you're Canadian and going through a crisis.
