I'm honestly really thinking of joining Twitter, while free speech is available there, but I can't shake the feeling that I'm betraying my cause by giving Elon Musk clicks after his birth rate rants.

Yes, but the lesser evil can be used as a force to weaken the greater. The problem is that people don't often use the lesser evil, but the middle evil, out of convenience.
Anyone here who mainly uses Firefox & forks or Chrome & forks supports evil. Android and Apple too.
When people value convenience over principles, their words ring very hollow sadly. It's also about not educating yourself about said evils, thinking that ignorance is bliss. A lot of sites that are supposedly on "our side" uses cloudflare or google ads/cookies/scripts on their sites.
It takes a bit of an effort, but it is doable to a great degree, without having to live in the woods. Sometimes you just can't escape it, so you have to use it. That said, you should push for alternatives while using that.
