Are you implying they ever voted any other way throughout ALL of history?
Emotion is king and just as the left will vote for pedos and braindead invalids because they are on their side, the right can vote in war mongers, snakes and a really sweaty man.
Voters run off emotion, always have, always will, so if they latch on to someone not because of party politics but because they genuinely like him and feel good, DON'T screw him over as that feeling will turn to spite, and their ire will fall on anyone you try to replace them with.
Beating Trump in a primary is not screwing him over.
He is not owed a free coronation.
If he is the man you think he is, he can win a primary against anyone who runs against him.
The base sitting out an election if Trump is not the nominee is selfish and not America first at all.
I personally will begrudgingly vote for Trump if he wins the primary.
I think he has no chance in the general but I will still vote for the nominee.
It greatly pisses me off that Trump 2024ers are unwilling to reciprocate this if DeSantis wins the primary.
If Desantis is smart, he's positioning himself as a presidential candidate now but not for 2024, but for 2028 since he knows he needs to build up his portfolio nationally.
2024 is going to be a cluster fuck thanks to efforts from everyone but actual grass roots to stop Trump, it is literally establishment vs the people and hopefully Desantis is smart enough to want to skip getting involved.
He won Florida by 19 points.
Why should he be forced to wait for 2028 ?
Trump 2024ers sound entitled like Hillary these days with the whole shtick of "it's his turn!"
Because right now he unfortunately has the stink of the establishment on him which may not be his fault.
One of the things that came out before the midterms was that just as in Arizona, the more Trump affiliated candidates were gaining a lead, the GOP leadership cut funding for them to campaign and gave $200 million to Desantis' campaign, where he was already 20 points ahead even before that money. So the GOP establishment fucked over MAGA candidates like Kari Lake and possibly stopping getting the Senate to screw Trump while giving the money to Desantis.
If there was a nomination battle between Trump and Desantis and Desantis won, can you imagine the damage this would do to his run? You're looking at the wrong targets, don't blame the Trump supporters, the GOP leadership has effectively screwed Trump AND Desantis for 2024!
