I for one welcome the "punch a nazi" slogan. You never hear "fight a nazi", "fight harder than a nazi", or "train to fight better than a nazi". If they did that us "nazis" might have some competition and something to actually look forward to. Harsh realities have thus been repeatedly and hilariously administered.
It seeds the thought that hitting a person is just where it all stops and reflects the soft-knuckle nature of an entire generation of people who by in large haven't gotten into a fight since kindergarten.
I am convinced that a large portion of these people would not hold the beliefs they do if at any point in their life they had experienced what it was to be punched in the face by someone who knows how to throw a punch.
There is too much novelty involved in the thought process. The indelible smarm that gives momentum to these escalations come from a lifetime of getting away with little dopamine bumps in overly effeminate social hierarchies.
Then there is the nature of the beast, where a person gets too familiar and thinks that they can keep taking ground until they're trying to hit you.
It's almost childlike. Then come the beliefs that get punched into you.
