LOL! I'm attributing Putin's inaction to misplaced caution and risk-averseness, but if he has some sort of master plan to overextend the American Empire (which I consider unlikely), that'd be genius.

Sadly it's probably the opposite. The West is funding the MIC while hoping the Russians will get desperate and overextend, and eventually being outspent will lead to a second Cold War collapse.
