It's not really an effective sequel to Victoria 2. It's more like Imperator: 1800s.
The most glaring thing is one Arch points out: there's a uniform tech starting line. Can't be pointing out that cultures have unique/different histories, and technological advancement/achievement levels to match. That would be problematic.
And yeah. The answer to upgrading Paradox's ancient combat system was to eliminate it. I want to laugh, but it's just sad.
This is what going public does to a high-quality niche company. Don't let the people own your means of production.
And a second opinion from iSorrow.
I am going to be having to thoroughly disagree with him. I have been having a blast and consider it to be a massive step forward from Vicky 2. And having listened to his complaints, a lot of it comes off as nitpicking over minor things. For instance, he said "There is no difference in playing as different nations now." But I had a very different game playing as Sweden, which was different from Belgium, which was very different from playing Chile, which was very different from playing Vietnam.
He can hate it all he wants. I will be over here loving it.
