Because 'white people' don't base their identity on their skin colour. What's the things that come up when you ask a reasonable white person what they are proud of:
Their heritage (nationality like being part Scottish/Italian/Polish etc)
Their political viewpoint
Their family and their community
Their own actions in life
Unfortunately for black people, there's been a drive for decades by media, establishment and unfortunately within their own communities to base a shared identity based solely on skin colour. How many times have you heard black Americans praise their roots in Africa when actual Africans living today don't feel that much towards them.
That lack of a shared identity through a concept instead of just physical characteristics is what's caused the downfall of a many black majority communities.
