There is a free over the air digital channel for old movies in my area and they were showing this the other day

You should give it a spin. I'd never seen or heard of it before I watched it yesterday and I'm a fan of cheap 50's monsters from outer space. This is British so probably why I hadn't bumped into it before.

I don't do gore or chainsaw massacres, but love me some black-and-white radioactive monsters.

Sounds like "Quatermass and the Pit" might be in your wheelhouse.

It's got a weird Lovcraftian cosmic horror vibe that gets genuinely creepy.
