Rifles as a whole have always made up a tiny proportion of gun deaths. They make up 4% of gun deaths, and that includes things like repeaters and bolt action rifles. ARs and AKs make up a miniscule portion of gun deaths. It's not about saving lives. They just hate the kind of person who tends to own an AR-15.

That, and their handlers know that an ar or ak is far more effective at shooting back at them than a glock would be.
They're just so easy to shoot, especially if you get a red dot. The first time I fired one I just knew I had to get one for myself.
